KarooRest - Paula Kingwill - Profile

Paula Kingwill is a dramatherapist and a farmer. She is passionate about rebuilding connections between humans and the planet. She believes that when we rediscover our relationship with the natural world, we are better equipped to heal other important relationships. When we understand the patterns of behaviour that are passed down through the generations, we are able to make more conscious choices about which behaviours serve us and which we need to let go of.

Lifelong Learning

She has a Master’s degree in Dramatherapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies and has honed her craft for the last quarter century. Her journey began in Cape Town, South Africa, where she worked with diverse client populations and community groups, and founded and directed the Bonfire Playback Theatre Company.

Paula is a dedicated student and continues to build her knowledge and understanding of the field. She trained as a Family Constellations facilitator in 2017 and has integrated this training into her work, creating a unique blend of Family Constellations, psychodrama and ecotherapy, which enables powerful insights and transformation. She recently trained in the LandLogic model, which enables her to work directly with farmers in need of psychosocial support. Every day, she learns from her greatest teacher, the Sneeuberg Mountain Karoo, whose unlimited wisdom surrounds her.

Facilitating Growth

At The Rest, Paula facilitates regular retreats, offering individuals and groups a space for profound self-exploration and healing.

She also offers online Family Constellations consultations, as well as ongoing therapeutic support.

Her workshops and courses are available on request, both on site at The Rest and wherever they are needed. She is also available to work with individual farmers on location.

A Visionary and a Farmer

Paula and Iain’s vision for The Rest extends beyond therapeutic interventions; it is a vision of community, sustainability and deep connection. This extends from their farming practices to their retreats and accommodation.

Getting to The Rest
We are half way between Cape Town and Johannesberg (about 8 hours in either direction) half an hour off the N9 highway. We are an hour from Graaff-Reinet and 25 minutes from Nieu Bethesda.

To Drive: Email us for directions and check on the current state of the road and how your car will fare on the dirt roads.

Carpool to workshops: Join the event on the Facebook page and see who is keen to carpool. Email us to put you in touch with other drivers coming from your area.

Bus: Both Intercape and Translux stop in Graaff-Reinet. We will arrange to pick you up from the bus station and bring you to the farm directly or via a guest house (buses usually arrive at awkward times in the late or early hours.)
Email us to arrange this.

Fly: Catch a flight to Port Elizabeth and hire car to drive to the farm (this is a four hour drive).
Co-ordinate with other workshop participants who want to do the same. Email us for directions.
